Volunteer in the sun- get involved this summer!
7th June 2022

We are edging ever closer to the summer months, looking forward to the warmer days and lighter evenings. We know summer can be a busy time; perhaps you are heading off on holiday, visiting family and friends or getting your BBQ skills up to scratch, but if you find yourself with some time to spare, why not give volunteering a go?
We have showcased a number of brilliant opportunities we have available this summer to suit a variety of interests, availability and skills:

Do you like to spend time outside gardening? Age UK Barnet are looking for Gardening Volunteers to support vulnerable older people with maintaining their gardens. Working alongside an Age UK Gardener you will help undertake basic gardening duties to keep client gardens accessible, safe and looking beautiful. Sessions will take place on Wednesdays and Fridays for between 2- 4 hours.
Or why not give the Community Plot at Whetstone a try with volunteer sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays 1:30-16:30. Working on a range of gardening tasks including growing fruit and vegetables.
Befrienders for Asylum Seekers and Refugees

If you have a little more time to give and consider yourself to be an empathetic and patient person, befriending is a great option for you. HostNation are looking for enthusiastic volunteers willing to offer friendship to socially isolated Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Barnet. During a 3-month commitment, you will meet with your friend once a week, supporting them with their English, settling in with the British way of life and spending time as friends do.
Cooking Volunteers

Feast With Us are recruiting Cooking Volunteers to help provide hot meals to those in need. Working with surplus food to prepare meals, you will have to be hands on and creative in the kitchen! All cooking skills and levels are welcome to join, with training and a food hygiene course provided. Ideally, you will be able to participate in 1-2 cooking sessions a month.
