12 roles of Christmas

It is the Season to be giving, whether or not you’re celebrating Christmas why not give the gift of volunteering this Christmas! 

Here are some unique and interesting volunteering roles from around Barnet for you to give your time to! 

Holiday Activity Volunteers – Young Barnet Foundation

We need volunteers to assist with the delivery of holiday activities and meals to children and young people around Barnet, this is open to all children and young people eligible for free school meals. Volunteers will be there to setup, help with the running of activities and serving food.  Sign up here.

Vaccine Support Bus/Pharmacy – London Borough of Barnet

With the new push to get booster vaccines out, there is a renewed need for volunteers to help with marshalling various vaccine stations in pharmacies and Barnet’s mobile vaccine bus. Volunteer with the Vaccine Bus here.

Befriender Volunteer – Home Start  

Home Start need befrienders to provide practical and emotional support to families with a child under the age of 5, mainly volunteers who are bilingual. Languages currently needed are: Albanian, Arabic, Syrian Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Bengali, Pashto British Sign Language. Get started and volunteer in this unique role here.

Finchley Community – Toy Library Assistant 

Finchley Community Toy Library is looking for volunteers to welcome families to the Toy Library, help with general tasks around the Library, such as cleanliness and tidying, picking toys with parents, and take records of toys and books that are hired out. Sign up to this unique volunteer role here.

Farm Volunteer – GROW Farms 

GROW are looking for volunteers to help jobs at their farm. Join them on Wednesday between 10am and 4pm to help with weeding, planting, to help with harvesting and more. Give your time learning new skills in farming here.

Meals on Wheels – Jewish Care  

Jewish Care are looking for volunteers to deliver food to their clients around either Southgate, Barnet, Cockfosters, and Enfield. By delivering meals, you bring nutritious kosher food and a friendly visit to older people in your community. Deliver meals to households in need across Barnet here.

Volunteer Shelver – Barnet Libraries 

This is a support role around Barnet Libraries, helping put stock back onto shelves in the correct order, empty self-service machines identify stock in need of attention and ensure that the library is always a welcoming and inviting space. Give your time in your local libraries and sign up to volunteer here.

Football coaching Volunteer – Kick Action Academy 

Kick Action are looking for motivated and sporty volunteers who are able to deliver football sessions to children between ages 3 to 16. You should have a passion for football and enjoy working with and encouraging children in sports.  Stay active and volunteer with Kick Action Academy here.

Foodbank Driver – Living Way Ministeries

Our Fresh Food-Share supports the central Government initiative in which good surplus foods are redistributed. In partnership with FareShare Go and Neighbourly UK, we collect foods such as vegetables, fruits, and bakeries from participating local food businesses and share with people who need them. The volunteers would they need their own vehicle for making food deliveries. Telephone Befriender – commUNITY Barnet 

Telephone befrienders provide much needed support for people who are dealing with isolation and loneliness over what can be a very difficult time. In some cases, the befriender might be the only person that they speak to all day so can provide an essential lifeline. Become a Befriender Volunteer here.

Home Support Volunteer – Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice 

Home Support Volunteers aim to provide to provide a range of practical and social support to the families of children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions in the community. Becoming a Home Support Volunteer is a serious commitment but it provides a rewarding opportunity to directly support children with life-limiting/ life threatening conditions and their families. Support young children and start a really fulfilling role here.

Charity Shop Volunteer Cherry Lodge Cancer Care  

We are looking for warm, friendly, energetic, organised people to help in our small shop in a vibrant shopping area at 1 Church Passage, EN54QS. Give your time to your local charity shop here.
