Volunteers’ Week 2025

3rd June 2025

For over forty years, the efforts and contributions of volunteers have been highlighted and celebrated every June during Volunteers’ Week. The UK-wide campaign typically commences on the first Monday in June, and in 2025 will run from Monday 2nd through to Sunday 8th June. During this time, Volunteer Involving Organisations (VIOs) up and down the country will take the time to celebrate and thank their volunteers.

Since we launched in 2015, Volunteering Barnet has enjoyed supporting Volunteers’ Week. Most years we host a training session for our registered VIOs to share tips on how they can acknowledge their volunteers and show their appreciation during this important week. We also provide and signpost to online resources that VIOs can use, such as templates for certificates and ideas for social media. Finally, but no means less importantly, we also like to say thank you to all our registered volunteers by sending a specially designed Volunteering Barnet card.

As 2024 marked the 40th anniversary of Volunteers’ Week, it was an extra special cause for celebration. Volunteering Barnet hosted an afternoon tea with The Worshipful the Mayor of the London Borough of Barnet, at the prestigious Hendon Town Hall. We welcomed over 30 volunteers, each of whom donates their time with one of the many Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) organisations in our borough. It was wonderful to be able to thank just some of the very many special people who tirelessly and selflessly give up their time to support the borough, and to hear their stories. It was also great to give them the opportunity to meet one other. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon immensely.

This year is special for Volunteering Barnet as we mark a decade of matching volunteers with VCFSE organisations and supporting best practice in the sector. Once again we encourage all organisations that host volunteers to also take the time out to say, “thank you” and to celebrate their volunteers. And if volunteering is something you have thought about, but don’t know how or where to start, please get in touch with us. We’d love to support you on your volunteering journey in Barnet.
