Andrea Malam – Making a Difference in Barnet

7th June 2023

Andrea Malam BEM is an award-winning Volunteer Ambassador, Coronation Champion, Published Author, and Role Model who enjoys inspiring, leading, and motivating others.

In 1995 Andrea accepted a job within the Civil Service Law Enforcement arena having a distinguished 25-year career until she retired in 2021 working different roles, receiving Commendations for her work and commitment.

Andrea resides in the borough of Barnet and is the Founder and Trustee of a small Charity SAVING DREAMS, helping to alleviate suffering, alongside enabling children to escape poverty with education and support.

Fundraising changed the way Andrea saw the world. It has changed the course of her life: supporting various projects helping thousands of underprivileged children and women worldwide.

Andrea is passionate about making a difference to the lives of others. Having lost family and friends to terminal illness and being able to counsel them in their hour of need. Andrea wanted to be a part of the fight against the pandemic and give something back to her local community, to help the healthcare staff with vaccinating Londoners.

Since the COVID-19 Pandemic began the NHS and local boroughs have been looking for Health Champions and COVID-19 Clinic Vaccine Marshals, Andrea supports her community by using the information that she gains from Info Sessions, sharing it with friends and family and the neighbourhood.

Andrea’s role as a Vaccine Marshal involved helping with patient flow management across the site, ensuring speed and safety whilst addressing any security issues or concerns to management.

As a humanitarian and a part of Volunteering Barnet, Andrea continues to work with several charities internationally and in the community, passionately maintaining her principles in her selfless activities. She carries out all her work and volunteering for all the projects without any financial contribution from the individual or organisations.

Andrea has been a COVID-19 Health Champion all through the pandemic and has been volunteering regularly at the COVID-19 Vaccination clinics in Barnet; ensuring they have the correct information and where someone is extremely nervous, she is there to help them calm down.

Andrea’s focus is empathy and compassion in support of both children and adults in need. Recent projects have included helping the Afghan and Turkey Refugees who were suffering following their crisis. This was done by collecting clothes, shoes, toys, and books as well as doing a sponsored walk to raise funds.

Andrea continues to work with number of charities and passionately maintains her principles in her tireless charitable activities and setting up projects. Through Saving Dreams, Andrea regularly supports the local food banks by providing food, toiletries, care kit, toys, and shoes as well as volunteering at the food banks.

If she could sum up her experience in three words, they would be:
